After cleaning up my sketch process, I decided to continue doing portraits.
This time of a popular musician - Jada Kingdom.
This was quite a challenging piece as I was still finalising my art style. I was leaning more into an illustrative style rather than the softer "painted" look. I am still yet to complete it however, so stay tuned for updates.
Initial Sketch

Following the sketch phase, I move on to inks which form the frame for the colours that I add incrementally. It also allows me to clean up the initial pencil sketch, leaving behind a more refined outline that is easier to treat as a canvas.

Inks

Currently Unfinished*

I aimed to create the look and feel of an illustrated piece, without making it too flat, and still giving it the depth of a painting.

I attempted to be braver in my treatment of colour, pushing for darker shadows and harsher highlights, for example, whilst also learning new methods of blending to create a seamless transition of skin tones.

So far, this is the piece I am most proud of,f even though it is unfinished. I believe there is a lot of potential in it, and I'm looking forward to completing it soon.
